Bone Flow and Scan

Patient Preparation
None.

Duration
20 to 60 minutes for injection and initial imaging. Return 2-4 hours later for additional images, which require 30 to 90 minutes.

Liver/Spleen Scan

Patient Preparation
None.

Duration
45 to 60 minutes for injection and scan.

Renal Flow Scan

Patient Preparation
Arrive well hydrated.

Duration
35 to 40 minutes for injection and initial images.

Hepatobiliary Scan

Patient Preparation
No food or drink for 4 hours. A fatty meal may be given during the study to activate gall bladder contraction.

Duration
60 minutes for injection and initial images. Delayed images of 10 minutes duration are usually required at 90 and 120 minutes. Additional images may be required 4 hours after injection.

Bone Mineral Densitometry

Patient Preparation
No injection required. No barium studies within 48 hours. Please do not wear clothing that has metal buttons or zippers.

Duration
30 minutes.

 

 

 

Thyroid Uptake and Scan

Patient Preparation
No recent IVP or gallbladder contrast studies. Exogenous thyroid hormone, Propylthiouracil and other drugs may alter the uptake response. Nothing to eat or drink for 6 hours prior to the study.

Duration
Day 1 - a capsule is taken orally and measurements are performed (1 hour 10 minutes).
Day 2 - the scan is done and measurements are taken (30 minutes for injection and imaging).

Cardiac Myocardial Perfusion Scans (Stress & Rest)

Patient Preparation & Duration
1. Myoview perfusion imaging may be performed as a 1 or 2-day study. In both, rest and stress images are to be performed. For 1 day studies 4 hours is required; for 2 day studies 2.5 hours is required per day.

2. For stress study: appropriate clothing is advised for exercises studies (running shoes, shorts and a short-sleeved loose T-shirt).

3. Low fat and no caffeine (coffee, tea, cola, hot chocolate) for 12 hours prior to the study. Light breakfast or lunch on the day of the study. Bring a fatty snack and a carbonated beverage.

4. Patients should be off beta- blockers and calcium-channel blockers on the recommendation of the referring physician only. For patients who have severe asthma and who are on chronic bronchodilators, Persantine stress studies are contraindicated. Patients undergoing Persantine stressing do not require exercise clothing.

5. No smoking 1 hour prior to testing.

6. Bring a list of your medications when you go for the test.

Ventricular Function Studies (Rest)

Patient Preparation
None.

Duration
1 hour.
